STEP 2 THE 1969 HAGUE SUMMIT AND ITS CONSEQUENCES
At the end of the 1960s France abandoned its policy of obstruction and undertook a more constructive approach. The new president Georges Pompidou called a summit meeting of heads of government to discuss the most pressing problems of the European integration. The summit was convened in The Hague in December 1969.
