Step One: An understanding of the cultural and creative industries

The cultural and creative sector is composed of different industries (in the Market Analysis of the Cultural and Creative Sectors referred to in Unit 1 of the course, these were referred to as sub-sectors.1).

By industry we mean all of the related activities which contribute to the final product. This might involve a whole range of interdependent organizations and involve a complex process from conception and design through manufacturing to marketing and sales. In thinking about industry in this sense we need to be aware of the synergies and relationships between the different participants in this complex process.
