Step 3. Europe: how do we define Europe (geography, culture and politics)?

Europe can be understood in very different ways: as a continent, as a collection of different countries, as a cultural space, as a political union and as an idea. In this subsection, these various aspects of how Europe is defined will be explored. First, the geographical understanding of Europe and its boundaries, then, the cultural understanding of Europe (which will be explored further in Unit 2) and, finally, the political understanding of Europe, usually associated with the European Union.
