This online course, Introduction to EU Law, is just a starting point in your exploration of the European Union legal order. We briefly discussed the genesis and unique character of EU law, the powers and competences of the EU, and the role of EU institutions. We also touched upon the hierarchy of primary and secondary sources of EU law, including international agreements and case law of the European Court of Justice. We also went through the process of adoption of EU law, and the role of the European Commission, the Council of the EU, and the European Parliament in shaping secondary legislation. Last but not least, we discussed the importance and differences between the two most important types of EU legal acts – regulations and directives.
